Description

We are excited to share that the application for the Medical Career Collaborative (MC2) is now open!

For those new to our program, MC2 is a health careers pathway program designed to provide youth, starting in high school, the opportunity to gain experience and exposure to the world of healthcare and access to ongoing support in their pursuit of healthcare professions.

In order to apply to the program students must:

  • currently be a sophomore in high school
  • attend high school in the Denver metro or Colorado Springs area

The program requires a two-year commitment with students participating in activities during both their junior and senior year. Program activities include:

  • monthly medical field trips/workshops/trainings
  • an internship at Denver Health or one of the following Children’s Hospital Colorado locations: Anschutz (Aurora), North (Broomfield), South (Highlands Ranch), or Colorado Springs
  • participation in weekly seminar sessions (during the internship part of the program)
  • mentoring
  • mini health related certifications
  • and college and career coaching

In an effort to build a workforce that better reflects the communities served in healthcare, MC2 focuses on recruiting students from groups that are underrepresented in the healthcare workforce.

The committee considers the following when selecting students:

  • Student essays
  • GPA
  • School activities
  • Community involvement
  • Student need
  • Recommendation
  • Interest in healthcare

The MC2 program operates at Children’s Hospital Colorado (at the Anschutz, North, South, and Colorado Springs campuses) and Denver Health. At this time, we have ONE central application that covers all MCprogram sites. Students may indicate a site preference but the MCadministrative team will determine where selected students are placed.

Applications are due by 5 pm Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

The application is long as it requires a school transcript, essays, a recommendation, and general information so we advise that students start working on their application several weeks before the March 6th deadline. *Please note, the application and all materials must be submitted online. No paper applications will be accepted.

New this year, we are offering three virtual, live information sessions hosted by MC2 staff. During these sessions students and/or parents can drop-in to ask questions and receive additional information and assistance about the program or application process. The date, time, and link for each are provided below and on our website:
