Support Function Wellness and Latinas in Tech through their
Donation Drive for Venezuelan Migrants in Denver
The situation in Venezuela has become untenable for many families with ongoing political and humanitarian crises. People started to flee Venezuela to other South American countries to find food and work, but not every refugee has been able to settle in nearby countries, so some have set their sights on the U.S. Or, some have tried to stay in countries like Mexico, and had to flee again.
Approximately 4,000 migrants have made their way to Denver over the past several months, according to the city’s emergency operations center. Currently, about 153 migrants were staying in the city’s emergency shelter, 48 in a church-run shelter, 52 had arrived at homeless shelters overnight and 35 were planning to leave the emergency shelter to stay with friends or family.
Right now, there are only short-term options for emergency shelters, and supplies are urgently needed to support the impacted families.
At a local level, Denver residents and organizations are all asking ”how can I help?” Through this donation drive, we want to make a concerted effort to activate as many local residents and organizations to come together and provide the impacted families staying in Denver with essential supplies such as clothing, toiletries, and children's items.
How to Help:
First is by visiting the Amazon wishlist we’ve created to donate requested supplies to the impacted families. This method is open to all and you do not have to be located in Denver to donate. At the end of the donation drive, our volunteer team will be delivering all of the items directly to the impacted families in the Denver metro area through a collaboration with Denver Parks & Recreation.
Secondly, we will be doing a designated physical drop-off day for local Denver residents on Friday, January 20th at four locations across the Denver metro area where members of our volunteer team will be stationed from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The details of the four locations will be updated on our website over the coming days, so make sure to check back. If you have any inquiries about physical donations or would like to schedule a pick-up, please contact us at hello@functionxwellness.com.
