Description

Youth Storytelling Campaign

What is the goal?

The goal of this project is to show the faces and people behind school funding. When we are talking about funding and formulas, we are talking about the people that budgets are meant to serve.

Why?

Colorado schools are underfunded. Colorado ranks 43rd in spending on education and ranks 50th for teacher wage competitiveness. Youth know what they want and need in their schools to be successful and have dignified school experiences.

I heard this was paid?

This will be a paid opportunity for students. Each participant will receive a $100 Visa gift card.

What are the submission options?

  • Op Ed / Essay: EXAMPLES?
    • A poem or essay discussing something that is important and crucial to students and why more funding would be important to this specific cause. Your cause can be things you want to see in your school or any campaigns you have been working on. For example: students care about mental health. Students have written essays about the importance of mental health and how there needs to be more funding for counselors and mental health resources.
    • Examples:
  • Art piece with an artist’s summary:
    • Any piece of art that is telling the message of the importance of funding to students. Look at the goal at the top of this form.
  • Video interviews/testimonials:
    • Videos/interviews discussing the importance of school funding. This could be related to things you want to see in school, or campaigns you have been working on.

Guidelines for all submissions:

All submissions need to align with the project’s goals of humanizing school funding, but this can be achieved in a variety of ways. Think about how school funding connects with some of the issues you care about in your school, district, and/or the campaigns you are working on with other student leaders.

Example questions to build/borrow from:

  • If money wasn’t an obstacle, what would be your vision of a perfect school?
  • What does equity look like in your school?
  • How and why is school funding important to you?
  • What opportunities have been denied to you and your peers because “there’s not enough money/funding?”

How do I submit?
