Are you interested in advocating for transportation justice from the inside? Here at the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, we believe young people are the experts in their communities and how youth move around them, and therefore belong at the table to lead and inform policies, programs, and projects that affect them and their peers. Teen Safe Streets is a youth-led program to promote transportation safety, educate about bicycle/pedestrian/transit mobility and teen driving safety and laws like the Graduated Drivers’ License.

Youth Advisors work within a small team to complete projects, organize events, and conduct outreach/education regarding active living, youth engagement, and safe transportation (transit, bike, walk, roll, and drive). 

  • Are you a young adult (ages 14-24)? 

  • Do you live, work, or go to school in the City & County of Denver? 

  • Do you want a job working to improve biking, walking, transit and driving experiences of local teens and advocating for equitable and safe access for all? 

  • Multi-lingual (speak additional languages) and/or multi-modal (travel by multiple methods: bike, walk, scoot, transit, car) candidates preferred.  


Position Salary Range

$18.29 - $27.44


Join our team! These positions will work with the Teen Safe Streets (TSS) grant program.  The Youth Ambassador team seeks collaborative teammates who desire grassroots civic engagement work, strong desire and/or history of Community Engagement or Social Justice work, engaging underinvested communities, workingalongside diverse young populations in neighborhoods across Denver.  

 


Dutiesinclude: 

  • Recruit youth and community members to participate in events and activities about safety, and accessibility toward transportation safety and equity  

  • Planning and hosting regular meetings for Teen Safe Streets  

  • Help organize, lead, and participate in community engagement efforts, including meetings, focus groups, social media/marketing, community art projects, Safe Routes to School, Vision Zero, and Community Active Living Coalition projects, walks and bike rides, trainings, and community events 

  • Participates in planning and research with peers, collecting data to provide perspective and ideas for programs, activities, events, and social media  

  • Be a role model focused on equity, inclusion, and diversity 

  • Be able and available to work on occasional weekends or evenings for community events or meetings with other youth 

  • Requires flexible schedule and strong, consistent communication skills 

 


Performs other related duties as assigned. Any one position may not include all of the duties listed.  

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Education requirement: None
  • Experience Requirement: Fourteen (14) to twenty-five (25) years of age. Specific age restrictions may be applied within this age range.
