Help Set the Stage for BreckWild with Colorado Young Leaders!

Sunday, April 13th, 2025

Join us for an epic day of service with the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) as we help prepare for BreckWild, an advanced wilderness medicine training course for future doctors. These medical students will spend weeks in Breckenridge and the Utah backcountry learning to save lives in extreme conditions—but before they can dive into their training, they need a solid base camp, and that’s where you come in.

What You’ll Be Doing as a Volunteer

As a volunteer, you'll be part of a hands-on effort to prepare the Griffith Lodge and surrounding areas for BreckWild. Your tasks will include:

  • Prepping the Griffith Lodge by cleaning, organizing, and setting up spaces for students and faculty
  • Shoveling snow and setting up outdoor spaces by clearing pathways, preparing staging areas, and ensuring accessibility
  • Bringing in medical gear by helping move and set up essential equipment for hands-on rescue scenarios

This is a family-friendly service event, open to all ages. Youth under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

What to Expect

  • A fun, high-energy service experience where you'll see behind the scenes of a world-class medical training event
  • The chance to work outdoors in a beautiful mountain setting while making a real impact
  • Learning more about wilderness medicine and the lifesaving skills these future doctors will be practicing

What to Wear and Bring

  • Warm, layered clothing – Weather in the mountains can change quickly
  • Sturdy, waterproof boots – You'll be moving gear and possibly shoveling snow
  • Work gloves – If you have a favorite pair, bring them along
  • Refillable water bottle – Stay hydrated at altitude
  • Snacks or lunch – We’ll have short breaks, but food is not provided

Who to Look For

Your main contact and leader for the day will be the Volunteer Manager from BOEC, who will provide instructions and oversee the service project.

Nicole Mahobian, founder of Colorado Young Leaders, will also be there representing CYL. She is passionate about outdoor adventure and youth leadership and is excited to support this meaningful service experience.

Who Should Register

This opportunity is open to:

  • Teens, families, and groups looking for a meaningful day of service
  • High school students wanting to build leadership skills and community impact
  • Anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to support lifesaving medical training
