Lyric Guidelines: We want everyone to be respectful and treat each other with kindness. This means we don't use language that makes anyone feel less human or like an object.

Why We Do This: We avoid dehumanizing and objectifying language because it has been historically used to harm, exploit, and control us. Using these harmful words perpetuates a plan to keep us powerless and suffering. Let's choose authentic expression and self-actualization.

What’s Not Acceptable Lyrics:

  • Glorifying Violence or Murder

  • Promoting Drug Use or Selling

  • Glorifying Illegal Activities

  • No Misogyny

  • No Hate Speech or Racial Slurs

What's Acceptable: Lived Experience and Expression  Remember, we're all about respect and understanding here at YOR. Let's use our words to inspire, educate, and bring people together rather than tear them apart.

How to Enter:

  • Create your original song following the theme.

  • Submit your entry by the deadline to Spring songwriting entry form.

  • Stay tuned for the winner announcement on May 3th at the Open Mic event.
