Who We Are

Your program's mission, vision and history

Mission: To promote curiosity, environmental awareness, and community health through stewardship and experiences with an urban greenspace that offers equitable access and connection to the diverse habitats, communities, places, and cities thriving along the Sand Creek Regional Greenway. Vision: A model urban greenway.

History: The Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership (SCRGP) was established in 2000 with the initial goal to work with the cities of Denver, Aurora, and Commerce City to build and help manage a trail and wildlife corridor in the middle of the city where community members could walk, bike, run, play, and find peace in nature. With construction on the Greenway now almost complete the mission of the SCRGP has changed to focus on increasing the accessibility, awareness, and use of this fantastic trail. The SCRGP is passionate about creating safe, accessible, and welcoming outdoor spaces for all, and works to foster a love for nature through exploration of an urban Greenspace.

What We Do

How your program accomplishes its mission and vision: its programs and activities

The SCRGP provides hands-on environmental education on and off the Greenway, in addition to providing environmental stewardship opportunities. We aim to spark an interest in nature through unique and engaging programs in local greenspaces such as bug hunts, sensory nature walks, water and soil testing, wildlife watching, and more.

Through these experiences we aim to inspire a love for nature and the desire to care for the local environment. For folks who are interested in enhancing their community and helping protect outdoor spaces, the SCRGP provides opportunities for community members to participate in land conservation projects along the Greenway such as native planting, beaver mitigation, and trail enhancements. The SCRGP runs both of these programs with the overarching goal of creating an equitable outdoor space for all that fosters connections to local greenspaces and within our community.

We offer monthly volunteer conservation projects, March through November, along the Greenway that are open to all ages and take place along the trail in Aurora, Denver, and Commerce City. These projects range from from native shrub/tree planting, beaver mitigation, painting, graffiti abatement, invasive weed mitigation, to trash pick-up, and more.

Additionally, the SCRGP would be happy to work with students on a individual basis (or in a small group) who are interested in taking on an environmental conservation project in their community. We can work with students to assess the needs of the Greenway (accessibility concerns, vegetation and/or wildlife data collection, wildlife management, pollution mitigation, etc.) and supervise/see through a project they want to take on. These projects can be as creative as the individual would like them to be.
